Challenging a PGA Tour Pro... If Equipped with a Superpower?
In a recent game, the frequent wastage of shots off the tee for the average golfer was once again highlighted. This time, the spotlight was on a 14-handicap player who took on a challenging course.
The match results do not provide information about a professional golfer who competed against this amateur player or the number of strokes each scored. However, the 14-handicap golfer managed to card an 85 (+13) in the match.
The three par 3s proved to be particularly challenging for the 14-handicap golfer, who played them in a combined +6. Despite the guaranteed up-and-down from 100 yards, the player was unable to make a single birdie, even on the par 5s, which, at over 550 yards, were not advantageous for the golfer.
Interestingly, if the 14-handicap golfer had an additional superpower of recording a par on the par 3s, they would have shot a 79. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the player lost two balls during the game, which is roughly average for a player of this ability.
The game served as a reminder of the skill and precision of the best golfers in the world. It is a stark contrast to the struggles faced by the average golfer, even with a hypothetical superpower. A bigger and better superpower, such as a mulligan on every hole AND a guaranteed up-and-down from 100 yards, might be needed for the average golfer to truly compete.
Despite the challenges, the 14-handicap golfer showed resilience and determination throughout the game, proving that with practice and dedication, even the most difficult courses can be conquered.
