Challenge your gaming expertise with PC Gamer's tricky trivia quizzes
In an exciting new venture, Robin Valentine, former editor of PC Gamer magazine, is spearheading a series of unique quizzes designed to challenge players' memories of games that are no longer available or have shut down servers.
One such quiz tests players' ability to recognise dead games from screenshots. But it's not just about identifying the games; the quiz also delves into the bizarre and humorous world of patch notes. For instance, the beta patch notes for the game Dune: Awakening humorously stated, "you're not Muad'Dib," and introduced a fatal mechanic where colliding with sandworms kills the player or destroys vehicles.
The Resident Evil series, with its strange mechanics and surreal design choices, has also led to unusual balancing patches or tweaks over time. Games like Resident Evil Gaiden and Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2 featured timed combat gauges and fighting zombified animals, which must have resulted in some interesting patch updates.
Another quiz is dedicated to identifying magic spells from various games, including Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring, and Slay the Spire. Players are also challenged to remember and sort real currencies from the fake ones, with examples like Mucus-Slick Eggs from Diablo 4 and Delirious Scouting Reports from Path of Exile.
In addition, a quiz is available for guessing gaming's weirdest currencies, and another for identifying games based only on their health bar. The quizzes feature screenshots of games with bland-faced, generic-looking protagonists, making the identification even more challenging.
PC Gamer's website is also publishing a weekly quiz featuring 10 ridiculous patch notes, testing players' knowledge and memory of various games. Morgan Park and Christopher Livingston are among the staff members contributing to these quizzes, ensuring a fun and engaging gaming experience for all.
With these quizzes, PC Gamer is not just testing your gaming knowledge, but also providing a humorous and challenging way to revisit some of the most memorable games from the past. So, grab a controller and put your gaming memory to the test!
