CFL Designates Trevor Harris and Damon Webb as Players of the Month According to PFF
In the exciting world of Canadian Football League (CFL), July 2023 saw some standout performances, as revealed by Pro Football Focus (PFF) in their position-by-position rankings.
Leading the charge was Trevor Harris, the quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who earned a remarkable score of 92.7, making him the top-graded player in the league for the month. Harris, who completed 78.5% of his passes for an impressive 1,088 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception, also received two CFL All-Week selections from PFF.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats' offensive line proved to be the highest-graded in the CFL for July, with a group grade of 73.8. Coulter Woodmansey, the center for the Tiger-Cats, was the top-graded individual on the offensive line, earning a grade of 79.8. Liam Dobson, right guard for the Tiger-Cats, and Brandon Revenberg, left guard, contributed grades of 73.6 and 70.0 respectively.
On the defensive side, Calgary Stampeders safety Damon Webb was the highest-graded defensive player of the month, earning a grade of 89.9. Webb, who had an impressive 16 defensive tackles and two interceptions over 261 total snaps, was closely followed by Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive lineman Julian Howsare, who earned a grade of 84.0.
The Calgary Stampeders' Derrick Moncrief, a strong-side linebacker, earned a grade of 83.2, while the Tiger-Cats' Isaiah Wooden, as a returner, earned a grade of 86.3.
In the receiving corps, Damonte Coxie, from the Toronto Argonauts, earned a grade of 72.9. Meanwhile, Vernon Adams Jr., also from the Tiger-Cats, and Hamilton's own quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, earned scores of 89.7 and 90.1 from PFF respectively.
The special teams category saw Bennett Williams, a special teams player for the Ottawa Redblacks, earn a grade of 90.6, while Sean Whyte, kicker or punter for the B.C. Lions, earned a grade of 89.9.
These rankings are based on PFF's grading scale of 0-100, assessing individual performance via game footage review, with minimum snap requirements for eligibility (25 snaps for offense/defense, 10 for special teams). The CFL began partnering with PFF for grading starting 2023, providing a weekly and monthly breakdown of top performers.
