Cesc Fàbregas Looks Ahead as Monaco Gains Momentum

In an interview ahead of Monaco's home match against Dijon, midfielder Cesc Fàbregas shared his thoughts on the team's current form and future aspirations.

Fàbregas, who has surpassed the milestone of 800 official matches in his career with Monaco, revealed that he plans to see out his contract with the club until June 2022. This is good news for the Principality side, as no active player at AS Monaco currently holds a contract expiring in June 2022. Takumi Minamino, Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Ismail Jakobs all have contracts running until June 2026.

The Catalan veteran spoke of the team's upcoming quarter-final clash in the French Cup, expressing that the sooner Monaco wins something, the better for the team's mentality. He also mentioned that if Monaco is among the top 2 or 3 teams in Ligue 1 close to the end of the season, they might entertain title aspirations.

Fàbregas praised the youthful squad, expressing contentment with their hard-working and self-demanding attitude. He also highlighted the importance of consistency and self-sacrifice in his career and believes that winning titles is the most important aspect of football.

The midfielder also spoke of his shared views with Monaco's head coach, Niko Kovač. He described Kovač as having a strong character and a very aggressive playing style. Fàbregas did not discuss any specific plans about his contract extension with Monaco but encouraged local youth to strive for more victories once they taste success.

Arsène Wenger, who managed Fàbregas during his time at Arsenal, was not mentioned in this specific interview. However, Fàbregas did recall Wenger's emphasis that it's not about age but performance on the pitch.

Monaco's initial goal for the season was to qualify for European cups, but the team has been gaining momentum in Ligue 1, catching up to the leading trio and entering the title race. With Fàbregas's experience and the team's promising young talent, Monaco fans can look forward to an exciting end to the season.
