Cesafi accepts Go as newly elected president

Cebu City - Promising developments are on the horizon for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) under the new leadership of Augusto Go, president of the University of Cebu, as expressed during the organization's formal induction and oath-taking ceremony on May 29, 2025, at Citadines Hotel, Cebu City.

During his tenure, outgoing Cesafi president Paulino Yabao of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) expressed optimism regarding the future direction of Cesafi, which is the largest school-based sports competition in the Visayas and Mindanao. Yabao affirmed that Cebu is in "the best hands" with Go at the helm.

Augusto Go commended Yabao's tenure and pledged to continue the advancements within Cesafi, stating, "I will just follow in your footsteps." Go's term begins in 2025, coinciding with Cesafi's 25th anniversary celebration themed, "25 Years of Excellence: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future."

A significant initiative under Go's direction is the comprehensive renovation of the Cebu Coliseum, the primary venue for popular Cesafi basketball games. Renovations are currently underway and are slated for completion before the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 Cesafi season on Sept. 13.

Go has invested substantially in the Cebu Coliseum's renovation, ensuring the installation of an air-conditioning system and a FIBA-approved basketball court surface. The coliseum will also receive upgrades to its LED electronic scoreboard, lighting, sound systems, bleachers, and modern comfort rooms. These enhancements aim to make the Cebu Coliseum not only a premier sports venue but also a more comfortable and accessible hub for community events.

Joining Go in the new Cesafi leadership are Fr. Francisco Antonio Estepha, SVD, as vice president, Dr. Dino Diez from Velez College as treasurer, and Fr. Randy Figaracion, SBD, from Don Bosco Technical College as secretary. They were sworn in by Judge Vincent Deo Albeos.

The Cebu Coliseum renovation is a part of Cesafi's 25th anniversary festivities, which include an inaugural cheerdance competition on September 10, a fun run on September 11, an exhibition game between UV and UC legends on September 11 afternoon, and the Cesafi Hall of Fame Awards Night on September 12.

These improvements aim to elevate Cesafi and the Cebu Coliseum to even greater heights, providing a safer, more comfortable, and modern sports experience for all attendees.
