Ceremonious hoisting of flags to take place at the Ram temple in Ayodhya from the 23rd to the 25th of November
The Ram temple in Ayodhya is nearing completion, with the Ram Lalla installed on the ground floor and his family on the first floor in Ram Darbar. This significant milestone is being celebrated with a grand three-day flag hoisting ceremony, scheduled from November 23 to 25, 2025.
The main flag will be hoisted atop the 161-foot-high spire of the Ram temple on November 25, marking a momentous occasion for devotees and followers of Lord Ram. The ceremony will also involve hoisting flags on the spires of all other temples within the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, including those dedicated to Shiva, Sun, Ganesh, Hanuman, Mata Bhagwati, Annapurna, and the seven sages (Saptarishi Mandap) connected to the Ramayana.
The ceremony is expected to be as grand as the temple's consecration, with thousands of sadhus, religious leaders, dignitaries, and devotees invited from across the country and possibly abroad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend as the chief guest, reflecting the event's national importance.
The flag to be hoisted symbolises the Hindu religion and culture, and the three-day event serves both religious and cultural purposes—reinforcing faith and celebrating Hindu heritage at the iconic temple site. The timing during Vivah Panchami amplifies the auspiciousness, as this festival celebrates the divine union central to Ramayana devotion.
Around 5000 guests will be invited for the ceremony, and a list is being prepared. Devotees will be able to visit the entire Ram Janmabhoomi campus after October this year. Special celebrations will take place in Janakpur, Nepal, for Vivah Panchami, as it is the main center of the festival and where the Ram-Sita marriage is solemnized.
The Ram Janmabhoomi complex houses seven temples dedicated to sages from the Ramayana, including Maharishi Valmiki, Maharishi Vishwamitra, Maharishi Agastya, Maharishi Vashistha, Nishad Raj, Ahilya, and Shabari. The second floor of the Ram temple will house rare and significant scriptures related to Lord Ram.
The Ram-Sita marriage celebration in Ayodhya includes bhajan-kirtan, Ramayana recitation, and the display of Ram-Sita's tableau. Around 90 percent work of the remaining temples in the Ram Janmabhoomi complex is complete. Construction work of two out of four entry gates in the Ram temple is over.
This grand event not only signifies a devotional celebration tied to the near-completion of the Ram temple, but also highlights the cultural symbolism of the flag representing Hindu faith and the spiritual significance of Vivah Panchami in the Ramayana narrative.
