Former Bundesliga Coach Felix Magath Takes on Sporting Director Role at Viktoria Aschaffenburg
Felix Magath, a 72-year-old footballing legend with a long and distinguished career, has returned to his hometown of Aschaffenburg to take up the role of Sportvorstand (Sporting Director) at Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the Regionalliga.
Magath's connection to Aschaffenburg dates back to his youth, having joined TV 1860 Aschaffenburg as a youth player in 1964. He later moved on to Viktoria Aschaffenburg before embarking on a professional career that saw him play for Hamburger SV and coach teams such as Hertha BSC.
In his new role, Magath will lead and drive the overall sporting development of the club. His goals include advancing Viktoria Aschaffenburg’s sporting progress, supporting financial consolidation, and emphasizing the values of regional identity and youth development. He serves in this role on an honorary (voluntary) basis, demonstrating a personal commitment to the club’s long-term success and rootedness in his hometown.
The appointment is seen as a significant and historic opportunity for Viktoria Aschaffenburg, highlighting Magath’s deep connection and commitment to the region.
The supervisory board of SVA has unanimously expanded the club's board of directors, with Magath, Matthias Hartmann, Marion Münz (Finance), and Ludwig Münz (Matchday Organization) joining. Hartmann will take over the position of chairman of the board.
Despite Magath's arrival, there will be no change in strategy after his commitment to Viktoria Aschaffenburg. The values of regionality and youth promotion will remain the focus of the club's actions.
Magath, a former double trainer of FC Bayern and Hamburg's Landesmeistercup goal scorer, is expected to bring "excellent expertise from his long-standing and successful career as a player and coach in Germany and abroad" to the club.
