CEO of Electronic Arts Favors Upcoming Battlefield Release Following Launch of Grand Theft Auto 6

Kickin' it with the Digital Goliaths 💥

Much like sharing a cozy pad with a colossal, gentle beast, the bond between Canada and the US or sleeping next to an elephant, as Pierre Trudeau once described, videogames can have a significant impact on the industry landscape. And don't we know it after Cyberpunk 2077 squirmed its way into 2020, bending competitors out its path.

Now, Grand Theft Auto 6 looms larger than life, leaving industry execs not employed by Take-Two Interactive a tad edgy: as one anonymous boss admitted earlier this year, "We don’t want to be anywhere near that." The very recent news of GTA 6’s delay, however, makes launching a game before May 2026 a walk in the park for those wanting to squeeze in a release before the titan takes center stage again.

Enter Andrew Wilson, Electronic Arts (EA) CEO, who, during a recent investor call, addressed the brewing competition. When asked about the impact of the expected major release, Wilson was coy on the subject of other companies but acknowledged the lengthy lead-up to major game launches, hinting that sitting on the sidelines won't be an option for those who missed the chance to prepare.

But fret not, Battlefield fans! The anticipated Battlefield sequel is right on track. Despite aligning with the end of EA's 2026 fiscal year, there's no need for EA to make adjustments; Battlefield was all set to launch within that timeframe.

"We've been building towards a window that made the most sense for Battlefield," Wilson said, using CEO-speak to assertively explain that Battlefield's release will steer clear of GTA 6's anticipated launch. For the next Battlefield, it's smooth sailing.

The unfettered exhilaration shared by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 actor Luke Dale notwithstanding, there's no denying EA's relief over the GTA 6 delay. A big win for the gaming giant, who is busy readying four studios—Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive—together with an ongoing player testing initiative called Battlefield Labs, to create the next big masterpiece in the series.

Get ready to jump back into the action-details about the official reveal and exact release date are yet to come, but summer 2025 seems to be the target date for the full game reveal. While a specific release date is still under wraps, the timing suggests a launch window of late 2025 to early 2026. Expectations are high, and there's some pressure on the developers to ensure the game gets done right and on time.

Stay tuned for more updates!
