Centuries-inspired Firearms: Century Arms' Centurion 11 and 14 Handguns

The Century Arms Centurion 11 and Centurion 14 are budget-friendly alternatives to the M1911A1 and Browning Hi-Power, respectively. Priced at around $350 and $370, these all-steel models offer a great value for gun enthusiasts.

The Centurion 11, a slab-side M1911A1 Government model clone, boasts a round-top slide, removable barrel bushing, and a recoil assembly consisting of a checkered bushing plug, a single round wire recoil spring, and a stubby old-school recoil spring guide. The Centurion 14, on the other hand, inherits the unmistakable profile of the Browning Hi-Power, with one set of slightly canted slide serrations between the rear sight and the ejection port, and a short-recoil, tilt-barrel action.

Both models come with blued steel magazines. The Centurion 14 ships with a 15-round double-stack magazine featuring a bright red follower and a flush-fit steel baseplate. The Centurion 11, on the other hand, is compatible with single-stack eight-round magazines or updated 15-round boxes, depending on the calibre.

The slides of the Centurion pistols are engraved with the word Centurion, a stylized capitol "C" with a sword driven point down through it, followed by either "11" or "14," depending on the model, and the serial numbers are engraved on the right side of the frame above the trigger guards. The grip frame's front and backstraps of the Centurion 9 mm Luger pistol are left smooth and untextured.

In terms of performance, the Centurion 11 and 14 pistols have been praised for their reliability. The author tested these pistols with various ammunition types, including CCI Blazer Brass, SIG Sauer Elite Performance V-Crown, Winchester 1911 loads for the Centurion 11, and Belom-brand rounds from Global Ordnance, Federal American Eagle, and Hornady Critical Defense for the Centurion 14. All six of the magazines used operated flawlessly in these pistols.

The Centurion 11 and 14 each come with external controls consisting of a round button magazine release button, slide stop lever, and thumb safety all located on the left side of the frame. The Centurion 14 also features a magazine safety to prevent the provided magazine from dropping free of the grip.

The Centurion versions of the pistols have a matte blued finish, injection molded black polymer grip panels, and are made by Alpharms, a small shotgun and pistol maker established in Turkey. They are imported by Century Arms in the United States, as evident from the caliber markings and "Alpharms Savunma Sanayi Ltd., Made In Turkey" engraving on the left sides of the slides.

In conclusion, the Century Arms Centurion 11 and Centurion 14 are among the most well-made pistols in their class that the author has tested so far. Offering an affordable price point and reliable performance, these pistols are a great choice for gun enthusiasts looking for budget-friendly alternatives to the M1911A1 and Browning Hi-Power.
