New Delhi Streamlines Civic Complaints: One Number, One City

Get ready to say goodbye to the headache of figuring out which government department to approach for your civic issues! Delhi's Public Works Minister, Parvesh Verma, has announced that the government is on the brink of adopting a unified helpline number - '311' - for reporting issues related to various city departments like NDMC, MCD, DDA, Jal Board, and public works.

During a visit to the NDMC Control and Command Centre, Verma revealed the 311 helpline, currently in use for the 42 sq. km area under NDMC's jurisdiction, will soon become the central hub for all significant civic departments in Delhi. His vision? "One Delhi, One Number." With this new system, Delhi residents won't have to scramble to determine which department handles their concern. They just need to call 311, and the complaint will speedily be directed to the appropriate department.

The innovative setup is primarily focusing on waterlogging issues during the upcoming monsoon season. Instead of running hither and thither between departments for solutions, citizens can expect a swifter solution. Whether it's a flooded street, a cracked road, clogged drains, or sewers bursting at the seams, citizens no longer need to jump through hoops to find relief.

Verma plans to hold a joint meeting with all departments within the next few days to hammer out the Command Centre's operational structure, deployment of departmental representatives, accountability systems, and technical integration.

CCTV cameras will be installed in vulnerable areas prone to waterlogging, especially those lacking existing surveillance systems. This cutting-edge technology will enable real-time identification of problems and prompt action by the field teams. For effective waterlogging management, technology is key, and live monitoring and CCTV surveillance will help our teams tackle issues swiftly.

During the monsoon, the NDMC Control and Command Centre will be in continuous operation, ensuring real-time tracking and resolution of every complaint. Monitoring officers from each department will work collaboratively at the center. Verma also mentioned that all pumping stations across the capital will be upgraded with automated systems, accelerating water drainage and offering technical back-up to field teams at all levels.

In essence, the unified helpline '311' streamlines grievance redressal across various departments and agencies, particularly focusing on waterlogging issues during the monsoon season. The operational structure, departmental integration, and technology will work together to ensure that Delhi residents can efficiently access and resolve their civic issues. Welcome to the future of efforts to create a 'One Delhi' dream.
