In a significant turn of events, Hamas has given a positive response to a U.S.-backed ceasefire and hostage release proposal, but with reservations. The negotiations, which aim to secure the release of hostages, including two Americans, Omer Neutra and Itay Chen, are currently ongoing.

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump on Monday in Washington, following his departure from the country. The discussions are expected to focus on the ongoing hostage situation in Gaza.

Trump, in a statement made on Sunday, expressed a "good chance" that a deal with Hamas would secure the release of some of the remaining hostages this week. However, no specific confirmation has been made public regarding the release of the two Americans by name.

The deal framework calls for the release of 10 living hostages and the return of the bodies of about 15 hostages held by Hamas. It is important to note that at least 20 living hostages are still believed to be in Hamas captivity. Israel has rejected some of the changes Hamas proposed as “unacceptable,” though discussions continue, with Israeli negotiators expected to fly to Qatar for talks.

Meanwhile, the community in New York gathered in Central Park over the Fourth of July weekend, demanding freedom for 50 hostages, including Omer Neutra and Itay Chen. Daniel Neutra, Omer's brother, called on President Trump to demand a comprehensive deal for the release of all hostages, not just Americans.

In a separate development, Daniel Neutra shared that Omer, who was born in Manhattan and grew up on Long Island, loved basketball, barbecues, and his community. He also mentioned that Edan Alexander, another American hostage, was moved to better living conditions after the election last year due to being an American citizen.

Netanyahu, in a statement, declared that Israel will not give up on the objectives of the war in Gaza and is committed to eliminating Hamas's military capabilities. However, the current status of negotiations with Hamas remains fluid, with mediators involved and talks planned in Qatar.

This reflects the latest public information as of early July 2025. The situation is under close watch, and updates are expected as the negotiations progress.
