CenterPoint Energy Restores Power to 124,000 After Severe Storms

Overnight storms left nearly 169,000 CenterPoint Energy customers without power at their peak intensity. The company's crews worked tirelessly to restore electricity after the severe weather, which included strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning.

As of the company's update, fewer than 45,000 customers remained without power. CenterPoint Energy managed to restore power to approximately 124,000 customers in the greater Houston area. This significant progress comes under the leadership of interim President and Chief Executive Officer John W. Somerhalder II, who stepped into the role following Scott M. Prochazka's departure. There is no public information confirming a permanent new CEO as of the third quarter of 2025. CenterPoint Energy serves a total of 2.8 million customers.
