Centennial Celebration: Enthusiasts of vintage automobiles commemorate milestone racing events at Schauinsland
The Schauinsland Klassik Oldtimer Rally, taking place in Freiburg, Germany, is set to commemorate a century of motorsport history this August[1]. Originating from the ADAC Schauinsland hill climb race for cars and motorcycles in 1925, the event has evolved into a celebration of vintage vehicles and a nod to the region's rich motorsport heritage[1].
This year, the 18th edition of the rally will take place from August 1 to 3, 2025, organized by ADAC Südbaden and the Freiburger Motorsport-Club[1]. The highlight of the centennial celebrations is the two-day Schauinsland Klassik rally on August 1 and 2, 2025. Over 140 historical vehicles are expected to participate in this event, covering approximately 230 kilometers daily, including driving along the historic Schauinsland hill climb route[1].
The start and finish of the rally are located at Messe Freiburg. On August 1, the rally starts at 12:30 pm, and on August 2 at 9:00 am. A special highlight for spectators will be seeing the oldtimers arriving one by one at the Freiburg Münsterplatz on the evening of the first day[1].
In addition to the rally, the international oldtimer meeting and an exhibition of historical vehicles will also be part of the program at the Freiburg exhibition center on Sunday[1]. Visitors can view automobiles and racing motorcycles that have previously raced on Schauinsland, with the oldest vehicle participating dating back to 1929[1].
The Schauinsland Klassik is not about speed, but rather reliability and precise speeds. In fact, the first cars raced up Schauinsland on August 16, 1925, for the so-called ADAC Bergrekord[1]. After a break around World War II, motorsport races were held on Schauinsland until 1985, when the organizers of ADAC South Baden shifted the focus to an oldtimer festival[1].
Apart from the main event, the rally includes four pictures (without specific details about the content of these pictures), and a route book providing information on the route and the speeds to be driven[1]. The oldtimer rally on Saturday is the second event of the year, with another event held on Friday[1].
Thousands of spectators used to watch the event, including from the tribune at the Holzschläger Matte on Schauinsland[1]. Approximately 200 spectators are expected to attend the Schauinsland Klassik races in 2025[1].
For those interested in the history of motorsport, the Schauinsland Klassik oldtimer rally is a must-visit event, celebrating a century of motorsport heritage in the region[1].
