Stephen Fry's Emotional Rollercoaster on Celebrity Traitors
Celebrity Traitors participant Stephen Fry breaks his silence, disclosing an alleged cast dispute from the show's set.
Stephen Fry has spilled the beans on his intense experience on Celebrity Traitors, the reality TV game that left him feeling like he'd endured an "emotionally violent" Chinese foot massage.
A total of 19 stars, most of them new to the reality TV world, joined forces in a Scottish castle earlier this year to record the show – set to air this autumn. Among them were Stephen, Jonathan Ross, Tom Daley, Clare Balding, and Paloma Faith.
During a live podcast recording in London, Stephen finally discussed the show, although he was tight-lipped about the game's twists and turns. "You know, it's absolutely agony...It's emotionally violent but you kind of love it," he admitted. Despite the secrecy, he hinted at a feud among the celeb crew once the game kicked off.
Stephen had initially turned down offers for Strictly Come Dancing and I'm A Celebrity, but the intriguing premise of Celebrity Traitors change his mind. He was drawn in by the show's clever gameplay, which he described as a mind-bending examination of human psychology.
When asked about the upcoming series, expected to include the likes of Joe Marler, Tameka Empson, Cat Burns, and Lucy Beaumont, Claudia Winkleman, who hosts the show, said only that a thrilling adventure awaits viewers.
How The Traitors Plays Out
The Traitors – a Dutch format acquired by the BBC – pits 22 contestants against each other, a mix of celebrities and nobodies. The contestants are divided into two groups: the Faithful and the Traitors, with some knowing they are traitors from the start, while others must figure it out as the game unfolds.
The objective for the Faithfuls is to identify and eliminate the Traitors, while the Traitors' mission is to get rid of the Faithfuls. The show offers both psychological warfare and strategic planning as contestants forge alliances, size up each other, and play mind games to survive.
Each night, the Traitors gather to vote out a Faithful, while Faithfuls can try to expose the Traitors, potentially saving themselves from elimination. Contestants are gradually eliminated until just one Faithful or one Traitor remains, who takes home a cash prize. The current series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, is set to air this autumn.
