Moorburg Marksmen and Folk Festival: A Three-Day Celebration of Tradition and Community

The small town of Moorburg is gearing up for a lively weekend as the Moorburg Marksmen Club hosts its annual marksmen and folk festival from Friday, 2nd to Sunday, 4th August. This traditional event promises a mix of marksmanship competitions, local culture, and family-friendly activities.

The festival kicks off on Friday afternoon with a children's festival starting at 3 pm. Young participants up to 12 years old can showcase their shooting skills in the children's king shooting competition.

On Friday evening, a military tattoo honouring the outgoing marksmen king, Hans-Georg "Schorsch" Wente (70), will take place at 10 pm at the August Ernst company, Moorburger Kirchdeich 60. Schorsch, who has been involved in shooting sports for over 50 years, is the reigning marksmen king and will end his reign with the proclamation.

The outgoing marksmen king of the Moorburg Marksmen Club is Marc Schirrmacher.

The festivities continue on Saturday with a festive parade through the village, shooting competitions showcasing marksmanship skills, traditional music and dancing performances, local food and drink stalls offering regional specialties, and family-friendly activities and games. The party night with DJ Boerschi, a highlight for both marksmen and non-marksmen, will take place on Saturday evening, starting at 8:30 pm. Admission to the party night is free.

On Sunday, the day will begin with the proclamation, marking the end of Schorsch's reign and the crowning of the new marksmen king. Following the proclamation, the tent party with DJ Boerschi will take place at 7:30 pm on the festival grounds. The tent party will conclude the marksmen festival on Sunday evening.

In addition to the main events, auto-scooters, stalls, and a beer tent will be available throughout the festival. The festivities will take place at Moorkathen, Moorburger Kirchdeich 63.

This marksmen and folk festival is more than just a competition; it's a celebration of local culture, community spirit, and marksmanship tradition in Moorburg. Join us for a weekend filled with fun, food, and festivities!

On Saturday, visitors can enjoy a variety of sports beyond marksmanship, as the festival grounds will host diverse activities such as auto-scooter races.

In order to cater to a wider audience, the party night on Saturday features music by DJ Boerschi, appealing to both sports enthusiasts and those who appreciate other types of entertainment.
