Rehna Fire Department Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Grand Parade

The picturesque town of Rehna in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern recently celebrated a significant milestone - the 125th anniversary of its fire department. The event was marked by a grand parade that showcased the department's modern equipment and the camaraderie between various emergency services.

According to Rehna's mayor, Martin Reinginghaus, the Rehna Fire Department is well-staffed and equipped with modern resources. The department, which has served the community diligently for over a century, was the centre of attention during the parade.

The parade, which included around 30 historic and modern emergency vehicles, was a spectacle to behold. Fire departments from Carlow, Groß Rünz, Schlagsdorf, Wedendorfersee, Ratzeburg, Rehna, and Dassow participated, adding a vibrant touch to the celebration.

One of the highlights of the parade was the Robur fire vehicle from the Rehna Fire Department. However, during the parade, the 1979 Robur broke down, a rare hiccup in an otherwise flawless event. Fortunately, André Bartheidel from the International Fire Museum Schwerin-Meetzen came to the rescue, towing the broken Robur with a 1962 Magirus Deutz tanker.

The parade also featured performances by the Radegasttaler music association, adding a musical flavour to the festivities. The Technical Relief Agency Gadebusch, the police, the rescue service of the Nordwestmecklenburg district, and the Rehna Fire Department themselves took part in the parade, demonstrating their readiness and cooperation in emergency situations.

Visitors to the anniversary celebration had the opportunity to see the equipment of the participating departments, as well as demonstrations such as fire fighting, first aid, and person rescue after a traffic accident. These demonstrations served as a reminder of the indispensable role that fire departments play in our communities.

Ernst Bockhold, a native of Demern and an honorary member of the Rehna Fire Department, participated in the parade at the age of 97. Bockhold, who served as deputy chief of the Rehna Fire Department for around 30 years, was impressed by the current equipment and technology at the new fire station, which replaced a heavily dilapidated 1995 station that was previously a beverage hall.

The new fire station, which cost approximately six million euros to build, is a testament to the commitment of the Rehna community to ensuring the fire department is well-equipped to face any challenge. As the parade came to a close, the Rehna Fire Department stood tall, ready to continue serving its community for another 125 years and beyond.
