Celebration in Liverpool turns chaotic as vehicle crashes into crowd, causing multiple injuries

In the heart of England's northern city of Liverpool, a shocking incident marred the celebrations of FC Liverpool's championship title. During a joyous parade in the city center, a minivan careered into a crowd of jubilant supporters.

According to police reports, multiple pedestrians were hit by the vehicle. The incident occurred around 6 PM local time, and the driver, a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area, was promptly arrested by responding officers.

The North West Ambulance Service is actively managing the situation, collaborating with other emergency services to provide immediate medical attention to those injured. A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

At this time, it remains unclear whether the incident was an accident or a deliberate act. The Merseyside Police are investigating, with a special anti-terror unit involved. Witnesses have reported screams, a black minivan driving directly towards the crowd, and the vehicle seemingly ignoring the clear road.

As of now, at least 27 individuals have been hospitalized, and the exact number of injured people or any potential fatalities have yet to be confirmed. The prime minister, Keir Starmer, described the incident as "appalling," and the home secretary, Yvette Cooper, termed it "really shocking" and "horrific scenes."

In light of the ongoing investigation, the police have asked people to avoid speculation and not to share disturbing footage online. Instead, they encourage anyone with relevant video material or information to submit it directly to the authorities.

The FC Liverpool team had earlier celebrated their victory in the championship with a 16-kilometer open bus journey through the city, drawing massive crowds of enthusiastic fans. However, this joyous occasion was tainted by the unfortunate and alarming turn of events. The Premier League and the team have offered their support to the investigating authorities.
