Augsburg's Autumn Fair Celebrates 150 Years of Tradition and Culture

Augsburg, Germany — Prepare for a lively celebration as the city's much-anticipated Autumn Fair returns for its 150th anniversary. The fair, which opens on Friday, August 22nd, offers a rich programme of events, including the traditional Tracht Boy competition, mood and party music, and brass bands.

The fair, located on a small parade ground, is a unique amusement park that features showmen's businesses exclusively from South Germany. The beer served is brewed locally in Augsburg, adding to the authentic, traditional atmosphere.

For those interested in photography, the "Tracht in Everyday Life and at Work" photo competition invites participants to submit their own images showcasing traditional Bavarian attire in various settings. The award ceremony will take place on September 7, 2025, at the Gredinger Trachtenmarkt.

The Tracht Boy competition, a highlight of the fair, will take place on August 23rd, with registration at the Meeß fish stand. The winner will receive vouchers and a sash from Blumen Schlegel.

The fair's parade, starting at noon in Maximilianstraße on August 23rd, is another not-to-be-missed event. The Schaller tent will host "The Mercuries" on Sunday, August 24th, for the third red-green-white FCA night.

Monday, August 25th, is "Rosa Monday," with the Schaller tent transforming into a party zone for the LGBTQIA+ community and their friends. The little ones among the fair visitors should not miss the children's events on August 27th and September 3rd in the Binswanger tent.

Each Friday evening, the fair concludes with large fireworks displays, adding a spectacular end to each day's festivities. The beer tents, with their culinary offerings and lively music program, are an integral part of the fair experience, having been introduced in 1927.

The Plärrer, the roots of the Augsburg Fair as a folk festival, can be traced back over 1000 years in the history of the free imperial city. The "Tracht in Everyday Life and at Work" photo competition is open for participation, with the aim of promoting down-to-earthness, joy of life, and love of homeland.

For the most up-to-date schedule and information, visitors are encouraged to check official Augsburg city event pages, local cultural associations, or dedicated autumn festival websites closer to the date.
