Celebrating Veterans in Nizhny Novgorod: Head of Regional Investigative Committee of Russia Marks 80 Years Since Victory in Great Patriotic War
In the city of Nizhny Novgorod, the head of the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia showed appreciation to veterans on the anniversary of their Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In the run-up to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, Airat Akhmetshin, head of the Russian Investigative Committee's Nizhny Novgorod office, paid a visit to centenarian Nina Mikhailovna Ermilova and veteran Alexander Vasilyevich Balashov.
Nina Mikhailovna, once a soldier in the Red Army's anti-aircraft artillery regiment, participated in the 2nd Baltic Fleet's liberation of Belarus and the Baltic States. After her military service, she devoted her life to caring for orphans as a labor instructor. Her numerous accolades include the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, the "Veteran of Labor" medal, the "For valiant labor in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of V.I. Lenin" medal, and the "Winner of the Socialist competition" badge, earning her the title of Honored veteran of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Alexander Vasilyevich, a veteran drafted into the Soviet Army in 1943, served with the 3rd Ukrainian Front's tank forces as an armored personnel carrier driver. He took part in the battles that freed Hungarian cities and other operations to liberate Rivne, Lviv, and other Ukrainian cities after the Great Patriotic War. His decorations include the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, and various medals, including the "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945" and the "For military Merit."
Airat Akhmetshin read out the congratulatory messages for the veterans from Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia A.I. Bastrykin, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and acknowledging their courage, heroism, and bravery. The veterans, in turn, expressed gratitude to the officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia for their care and attention.
