This exhibition is more than just a display of his artworks; it offers a peek into the life and creative mind of the artist, providing visitors with an intimate understanding of the man behind the genius.

Curator Philipp Freytag shared his vision, emphasizing that the exhibition is not just about Bernhard Heisig the artist, but also Bernhard Heisig the person. The event takes place from March 20 to June 9, showcasing a diverse array of oil paintings and prints, spanning nearly five decades of the artist's work.

A Highlight of the Show: The Helmut Schmidt Portrait

The exhibition features one of Heisig's most famous works—the portrait of former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, a fitting addition considering the painting was commissioned by Schmidt himself. The exhibition presents this large-scale oil painting alongside five self-portraits from the 1950s, providing an interesting juxtaposition between personal reflections and a public commission.

Appreciating the Printmaker Heisig

Freytag emphasized the aim of the show is not only to admire Heisig as a painter but also as a printmaker. By mixing large oil paintings with smaller prints, visitors are encouraged to appreciate the versatility of Heisig's artistic abilities.
