In mid-2024, the third anniversary of Pokémon UNITE brought a series of special events for players, featuring discounted items and missions, as well as the introduction of unique skins and items for various Pokémon such as Latias and Pawmot [1]. However, the licenses for the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Charizard were not highlighted during this anniversary celebration.

Fast forward to 2025, and significant updates were in store for both Ho-Oh and Charizard. Ho-Oh received a rework, altering its move set to include the powerful "Sacred Fire" [2]. Meanwhile, Charizard, along with other Pokémon, received buffs in a patch released around early August 2025 [3]. These updates were part of a broader plan to introduce new Unite licenses for Mega-Evolving Pokémon like Charizard, timed to coincide with the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A in October 2025 [2][3]. These new licenses serve as bonus playable options that offer enhanced strategies in battle.

The fourth anniversary in 2025 saw the introduction of new Unite licenses for Pokémon such as Latios, Latias, and Gyarados [3][5]. The anniversary celebrations also marked the distribution of the long-awaited Charizard license. To obtain the Ho-Oh license, players can roll a free in-game die and complete missions to earn a token [4].

To play Pokémon UNITE, players will need a persistent internet connection and a compatible smartphone. The Nintendo Switch version of the game can be downloaded from Nintendo.com or the Nintendo eShop. The game offers cross-platform support for Nintendo SwitchTM and mobile devices, allowing players to compete against each other regardless of their platform [6].

Pokémon UNITE is a free-to-start game, with optional in-game purchases available. Teams of five players engage in strategic battles, utilising unique Unite Moves to outmaneuver and outpace their opponents [7]. During the anniversary festivities, players can collect various anniversary goodies within the game.
