Celebrants Advance in Dance, Acclaim, and Exultation
In the vibrant city of Tokyo, the 1991 World Athletics Championships witnessed a significant moment as the British 4x400 metres relay team triumphed. The team, comprising of Roger Black, Derek Redmond, John Regis, and Kriss Akabusi, crossed the finish line first, securing a historic victory.
Interestingly, this triumph was not just a sports victory, but a testament to the spiritual journey of one of its members, Kriss Akabusi. A committed evangelical Christian, Akabusi often attributed the team's success to his faith, declaring to journalists after the victory, "Christ is the true victory!"
This victory, however, seems to have had an unexpected impact on the religious landscape of England. Many people, caught up in the excitement of the championships, found themselves arriving late for church that Sunday morning.
The Bible, in Ephesians 2, states that God has given life to all people. This life, it suggests, comes with both spiritual and material blessings, though the specific ways in which God has blessed people may vary.
One such example can be found in the Bible story of a man who was paralysed for more than forty years. After a miracle performed by God, he was healed and was able to walk and leap. Overwhelmed by this miracle, the man publicly thanked God for his newfound mobility, his joy and gratitude impossible to ignore wherever he went.
This story serves as a reminder for us all. Just as the healed man praised God publicly, we too are encouraged to express our gratitude for the blessings we have received. Whether it's the simple joy of a beautiful day or the more substantial blessings of good health and prosperity, we are called to walk, leap, and praise the Lord, and to shout to the world about God's greatness.
So, let us remember to be thankful for the numerous material blessings we have received, and for the spiritual blessings that God has bestowed upon us. And let us not forget to share our gratitude with the world, just as the healed man did in the Bible, and as Kriss Akabusi did on that victorious day in Tokyo.
