Cebu Hosts Key Forum on Urban Water Security Solutions in 2025

A major forum on urban water security will take place in Cebu on November 27, 2025. Organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 7, Hydronet Consultants Inc., and the Asian Institute of Technology Thailand, the event aims to tackle pressing water challenges in the region. Local governments, water providers, and academic experts are expected to attend and explore solutions for water scarcity and flooding.

The Water Secure PH Forum will focus on the Water Security Index (WaSeC), a tool designed to help decision-makers assess and improve urban water security. This index is based on the Water Security Assessment Tool (WatSat), developed by the Asian Institute of Technology. WatSat evaluates five key areas: water availability, access, infrastructure, management, and governance.

The forum will provide local leaders with practical methods to evaluate and strengthen water security. Using the WaSeC and WatSat tools, they can design better policies and infrastructure plans. These efforts aim to reduce the impact of water-related disasters and ensure a more stable water supply for Cebu’s communities.
