Ceasefire Violations Persist for Tenth Day by Pakistan; Indian Army Responds Along Line of Control (LoC)

Tenth Night of Tension:

The Pakistan Army's unrelenting aggression along the Line of Control (LoC) has hit a ten-day streak, causing a fir back from the Indian Army. On May 3-4, the LoC echoed with unprovoked small arms fire from Pakistan Army posts, as reported on Saturday.

In several sectors like Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor, the action was immediate and robust. A spokesperson for the Indian Army confirmed the ordeal, stating, "During the night of May 3-4, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC."

Regrettably, this bout of cross-border violence came during an already tense period after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, mostly tourists.

As tensions escalated, Pakistan retaliated swiftly. Since April 24, Pakistani forces have resorted to unprovoked small-arms fire at various points along the LoC, starting from Kashmir Valley. They also closed their airspace to Indian planes, shut down the Wagah border crossing, and halted all bilateral trade.

In a bold move, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that any diversion of water under the Indus Waters Treaty would be considered an act of war.

Despite reaffirming their commitment to the 2003 ceasefire agreement in February 2021, officials from both countries have failed to find common ground. The recent escalation of ceasefire violations represents a significant deterioration in the fragile border stability that had been established over the last two years.

As the situation remains volatile, security forces remain on high alert. Unfortunately, civilians living near the LoC are also experiencing the brunt of this conflict. Residents in sectors like Araspura and Aria are digging up bunkers and avoiding farm activities due to the constant shelling. Meanwhile, civilians in Jammu’s Pargwal and Rajouri’s Sunderbani have reported damage to their homes and fields.

As of May 4, both sides have yet to announce any de-escalation measures, maintaining combat readiness along the LoC and International Border. It seems that, for now, the region remains on edge, with no immediate resolution in sight amid escalating tensions.
