CDU's mayoral candidate proposes plan to bolster community groups and esteemed positions
In the heart of Solingen, a city renowned for its vibrant festivals and active community, a new initiative is taking shape. Daniel Flemm, the CDU mayoral candidate for Solingen, has proposed the establishment of a city service titled "City Society," aiming to provide a more supportive and efficient administrative structure for the city's clubs, associations, and initiatives.
The proposed service is designed to create central contact points for various groups, with a focus on tradition and neighbourhood festivals, sports associations, integration with targeted offers for social groups, city marketing, and city partnerships. The initiative also includes a transparent funding structure through the integration of the Gerd-Kaimer Foundation.
Flemm's campaign emphasizes the need to reduce bureaucracy, speed up approvals, and establish reliable funding structures, all while attracting new talent for voluntary work. The event, held at ebbtron and attended by around 50 representatives from associations, associations, and politics, served as a platform for discussing these issues.
One of the key points of discussion was the need to eliminate double work for volunteers and the administration. Currently, volunteers are required to communicate with up to seven different places, each with its own forms, deadlines, and regulations. The new city service aims to address this issue, providing a simplified and unified system.
Philipp Müller, from Initiativkreis Solingen, voiced his support for a reliable structure for associations, stating that standardized applications are not feasible in Solingen due to constantly changing points of contact. He echoed the frustration felt by many volunteers, citing the time taken and the frustration caused by these changes.
Leonhard von den Steinen, the 1st chairman of the Club of the Disabled and Their Friends Solingen e.V., expressed his support for the idea, particularly the prospect of small associations having better access to resources that already exist. However, he also raised concerns about the financing of the proposal. In response, Flemm assured that he would work towards strengthening the foundation of the social sector.
Nurten Öztürk, coordinator of the Free Welfare Association Solingen, shared similar concerns about the financing of the proposal. Flemm reassured her that the city service would be established directly under the mayor in 2026, ensuring its integration into the city's budget and operations.
Behind the scenes of Solingen's festivals, frustration is growing due to increasing regulations, lack of contact persons, and excessive bureaucracy. Flemm believes that the current system pushes experienced organisers to their limits and wants to drive change to alleviate this. The proposed city service aims to provide an administration that supports instead of hinders, provides orientation instead of deterring, and strengthens the backbone of the Solingen city society: volunteering.
