"One of our own": Hagel gets 'Narrenschelle' - CDU’s Manuel Hagel wins quirky ‘Golden Retriever’s Bell’ for wit and responsibility
Manuel Hagel, a CDU politician, will receive the 'Golden Retriever's Bell' from one of Germany’s oldest fool’s associations. The award ceremony takes place on February 4 at Europa-Park in Rust during the Carnival season. The honour recognises individuals who speak openly, take responsibility, and embrace humour.
The Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fool’s Guilds (VSAN) was founded in 1924. It brings together 68 guilds from different regions, celebrating tradition and wit. Past winners of the 'Golden Retriever's Bell' include prominent figures like Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann and Minister-President Markus Söder.
Hagel, an active member of the 'Spritzenmuck' guild in Ehingen, follows a long line of honourees. The award carries no cash prize but holds symbolic value. It highlights those who balance seriousness with self-deprecation. The ceremony will also honour Friedrich Merz, CDU party leader, in 2026. Both events take place at Europa-Park, a key venue during the 'Fastnacht' festivities.
The 'Golden Retriever's Bell' will be presented to Hagel on February 4, 2025. The recognition underscores his engagement with local traditions and public life. The VSAN continues its century-old practice of celebrating humour and accountability.
