CDU Urges Germany to Declare 'State of Tension' Over Drone Threat
CDU security expert Roderich Kiesewetter is urging Germany to declare a 'state of tension' due to recent drone incursions. These incidents, which have also affected other European countries, pose a significant threat according to CDU politician Marc Henrichmann.
Kiesewetter believes the declaration would allow the German Armed Forces to swiftly protect essential infrastructure and offer additional support to the police. This comes as unauthorized drone flights have been reported in several European countries, with some identified as originating from Russia. These incursions, which Kiesewetter describes as hybrid attacks, blur the line between external and internal security.
Henrichmann emphasizes the need for decisive action, describing the threat from drones as 'massive'. He stresses the importance of short decision-making paths and clear responsibilities between the police and the military to counter this threat effectively.
If declared, the 'state of tension' would enable the German Armed Forces to immediately repel drones over military facilities and critical infrastructure. This measure is being considered in response to the growing drone threat, which has been felt across Europe.
