The CDU in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is contemplating a potential alliance with Bündnis Sarah Wagenknecht (BSW) at the state level, as per state chairman Daniel Peters in an interview with "Ostsee-Zeitung." He views the BSW as a diverse group with a desire to enter politics, stating, "We need to understand: What are their motives?"
However, Peters rules out any active partnership with the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD). "There will be no agreements or joint initiatives with the AfD," he insists, clarifying that if the AfD supports a CDU motion, it's just how politics work.
Peters is open to collaborating with BSW, but firmly rejects any form of active partnership with the AfD. Regardless of the AfD supporting CDU motions, there will be no agreements or joint initiatives between the two parties.

CDU's stance on collaborating with the AfD and their potential alliance with Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (B90/Grüne) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a complex issue, influenced by various factors.
CDU's Relationship with AfD
Officially, the CDU rejects collaboration with the AfD at both the state and national levels. This stance was strengthened after the controversial election of Thuringia's president with votes from the CDU and AfD, leading to the former's resignation.
Despite this, there have been instances of cooperation between the CDU and AfD at the municipal level, particularly in eastern Germany. Studies show that the CDU has participated in 62% of such instances, followed by the FDP and Social Democrats.
CDU's Potential Alliance with B90/Grüne
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, local politics could motivate the CDU to form an alliance with B90/Grüne. The region's politics are significantly influenced by the strong presence of the AfD and other right-wing parties, necessitating strategic alliances to maintain political stability and counterbalance far-right influence.
Despite policy differences, a local alliance between the CDU and B90/Grüne could be pragmatic and necessary for governance. The CDU's focus on nuclear fusion and energy policies, as well as their stance on taxation, might not align with B90/Grüne's more progressive and environmentalist agenda, but local circumstances might dictate cooperation.
