CDU perceives its existence as being jeopardized
In a recent development, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Neukirchen-Vluyn has expressed concern over the city administration's decision to close the Vluyner Nordring and route all traffic via the Niederrheinallee from August 25 to the end of December.
The CDU finds it unacceptable that the administration is making decisions opaquely and without the involvement of citizens. Heiko Haaz, the deputy chairman of the CDU faction, criticizes the administration for ignoring the promised review of an alternative traffic detour suggested by a citizen - a partial detour via the Vluyner Südring.
At a council meeting, the first deputy mayor, Margit Ciesielski, had promised, upon request, to examine this alternative. However, the city's press release does not mention this promise made by Ciesielski.
The CDU is calling for transparency regarding whether the administration has examined this proposed alternative as part of the traffic planning process. They want to know if this option has been considered and, if not, why not.
The CDU believes that decisions with such grave economic consequences should be transparent, understandable, and made with the involvement of those affected. This decision means the loss of parking spaces in the Vluyner center during the busiest time of the year - the entire Advent and Christmas season. The CDU sees this as an economic blow to businesses and gastronomy operations in the area.
In response, the administration denies not having examined possible alternatives and claims the decision was made "after weighing various options" and agreed upon with relevant authorities. They argue that the examination was supposed to clarify how residents, businesses, and inner-city traffic could be relieved.
The CDU wants the administration to make all reviewed variants and their assessment public. They also call for short-term dialogue with affected business owners to mitigate damages. The CDU wants other possible detours to be made public as well, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the options considered.
The CDU's conclusion is that anything else leaves a bitter taste. Especially in the absence of the mayor due to illness, they expect the administration to act responsibly, transparently, and in the best interest of the city.
