In a secret ballot held on Monday evening at the Haus Horchheimer Höhe in Koblenz, Josef Oster was elected as the CDU's candidate for the 2025 Bundestag election. The event, attended by the delegates of three CDU district associations—CDU Koblenz, CDU Mayen-Koblenz, and CDU Rhein-Lahn—was led by Matthias Lammert, the chairman of the CDU Rhein-Lahn district association.

Josef Oster, a member of the CDU and current Bundestag representative, has been qualified for the election due to his comprehensive, competent, and diligent work, deep roots in his home region, and good connection to the people on the ground. However, specific details about his key policy priorities for the 2025 election remain unclear.

Oster, who is running as the CDU candidate, expressed his intention to help retire the traffic light government and support Friedrich Merz as the next chancellor. He also outlined his plans for order, control, and guidance of migration, competitive energy prices, reducing bureaucracy, investing in security, boosting the economy, re-establishing and cultivating respect for performers of society, and further support for Ukraine.

The election was a clear victory for Oster, with 68 out of the 70 eligible voters present voting in his favour. The district representatives' assembly of the CDU elected Oster with 97 percent of the votes, a testament to the delegates' confidence in his abilities. The outcome of the election was predictable due to the prolonged applause of the delegates, culminating in standing ovations for the re-elected CDU candidate.

Josef Oster's work in the Bundestag since 2017 has not gone unnoticed. Lammert, the chairman of the CDU Rhein-Lahn district association, praised Oster's work, emphasising his contributions to the region.

The constituency number for the election remains 198 (previously 199), and the location of the event was Koblenz/Myk/Rhein-Lahn. For those seeking detailed, current priorities, Oster's official campaign website, recent press releases, or CDU party platforms for 2025 are recommended sources.
