CDU identifies persistent problems with Caroline Bosbach
In a recent turn of events, Caroline Bosbach, CDU federal MP and daughter of the former CDU interior politician Wolfgang Bosbach, is set to address allegations concerning her 2023 election to the board of the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT) in a confidential meeting with the CDU local board this weekend.
The meeting, which was initially scheduled for a CDU Rhein-Berg board meeting, has been postponed to facilitate this direct discussion and decide the next steps. The location and time of this meeting remain confidential, and a new date for the rescheduled board meeting is yet to be announced.
The allegations involve manipulated chat logs and reported payments for entry into the MIT. Bosbach has denied these allegations, stating that she did not enrich herself or harm the party. She has also decided to withdraw from the local election campaign until the allegations have been fully clarified.
The CDU Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis had initially given Bosbach an ultimatum to clarify these allegations by August 8, 2025, but this was deferred to enable the personal meeting. The district board has stated that Bosbach was not personally available for questions during the meeting, and they are seeking answers to questions posed to her.
The district board has also welcomed Bosbach's decision to withdraw from the local election campaign. In a show of transparency, Bosbach has published a video denying the allegations on Facebook and Instagram.
In a previous statement, the district board had stated that Bosbach's recent email and social media post have not provided sufficient clarification. They have also supported the decision of the district board to hand over all documents to the Cologne public prosecutor's office for an independent review.
The district board is planning to meet again on Saturday for evaluation. Bosbach will not attend any public events during this period. The CDU in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis has unanswered questions regarding these allegations, and they are hoping for a clear and honest dialogue with Bosbach to bring this matter to a resolution.
