CDU Criticizes the Rebranding of CISPA Innovation Campus as "Economic Policy Instigation"

The CDU in Saxony has raised concerns about the planned renaming of the CISPA Innovation Campus by the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs. The party has criticized the decision's lack of transparency and potential negative impact on the campus's international reputation.

Ute Mücklich-Heinrich, chairwoman of the economic committee of the CDU faction, has described the situation as "at least extremely embarrassing for the state government." Tobias Hans, digital and innovation policy spokesman for the CDU, has emphasized that cybersecurity and AI have always been a top priority for both CDU and SPD in Saxony.

The CDU MPs believe that the state chancellery was deceived by Minister Barke, implying that the draft for the renaming was not agreed upon. They are particularly critical of the fact that CISPA director Professor Michael Backes is apparently considering creating a private-sector alternative to the lengthy bureaucratic procedure in the Ministry of Economy.

Hans is increasingly concerned about the current developments regarding the CISPA Innovation Campus, as he believes the political will assumed in the state chancellery is not reaching the specialist departments of the Ministry of Economy. Mücklich-Heinrich has stated that the approach of Minister of Economy Barke has put "a unique constellation of luck for structural change in our country in great danger."

The CDU demands that Minister President Anke Rehlinger (SPD) takes action to rein in her Minister of Economy to limit further damage. The renaming of the CISPA Innovation Campus has caused significant outrage within the CDU state parliament faction.

Mücklich-Heinrich has expressed gratitude if Professor Backes continues to commit to the location despite the political situation. She has also expressed hope for a commitment from CISPA director Professor Michael Backes to the region, despite the political turmoil.

The CDU MPs have accused Minister of Economy Jürgen Barke of economic arson due to the renaming of the CISPA Innovation Campus. They believe that the expected new value creation around the CISPA Innovation Campus has been significantly damaged by the state government's approach. The CDU states that significant economic damage has already been caused due to the approach of the state government regarding the CISPA Innovation Campus.

Minister President Anke Rehlinger has not yet taken public action against the renaming. Mücklich-Heinrich has stated that the approach of Minister of Economy Barke has put "a unique constellation of luck for structural change in our country in great danger." The CDU demands that Rehlinger takes action to rein in her Minister of Economy to limit further damage.
