CDU Calls for Strong South West Presence in Political Rankings, According to Warken and Frei
In the political landscape of Germany, changes are afoot as the country prepares for next year's state election. One of the most notable shifts is the potential succession of Hagel, a confidante of Minister President Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), to the Minister President position.
Nina Warken, currently a contender for this role, is also set to become the Federal Minister of Health in the new federal government. Despite not having decades of experience in the healthcare sector like the outgoing Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), Warken is known as a "sharp-witted generalist" with the ability to quickly immerse herself in new topics. This surprising choice for the cabinet has sparked interest and anticipation.
Meanwhile, in the Foreign Office, Gunther Krichbaum, from the Pforzheim constituency, will become State Minister for Europe. Krichbaum, a "true heart-european," brings years of experience as chairman of the Europe Committee in the German Bundestag to his new role. This appointment is seen as important, especially given the increasing signals of international isolation.
A Christian Democrat from Baden-Württemberg taking on this role is considered appropriate by Hagel, reflecting the region's continued influence in the federal government. Baden-Württemberg is, in fact, represented by two important ministerial posts in the new federal government.
Thorsten Frei, a close confidant of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, will become Chief of Staff in the new federal government. Frei's extensive political experience, from his tenure as First Parliamentary Managing Director of the Union faction in the Bundestag to his time as mayor of Donaueschingen from 2004 to 2013, will undoubtedly be an asset in this new role.
As for the CDU, Carsten Linnemann remains the party's Secretary-General. Linnemann, a prominent CDU politician, is responsible for the party's organizational leadership, strategic planning, and communication. His role is crucial in shaping the party's political agenda and rallying support within the CDU and among the electorate.
With these changes, the German federal government continues to evolve, promising a new era of political leadership and policy making.
