Parliamentary Session Set for Commemoration of 35 Years of German Unification (Celebratory Session Marking 35 Years of German Unity Planned by CDU) - CDU announces exceptional Landtag session to commemorate the 35th anniversary of German unification.

In an effort to honour the historical significance of German reunification, the CDU has proposed a special session of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state parliament. The session, scheduled to take place in Schwerin Castle, aims to commemorate the anniversary and promote democracy.

CDU parliamentary group leader Daniel Peters believes that a special session would be an appropriate and important symbol for the occasion. The Union faction has submitted a motion, calling for the anniversary to be celebrated by honouring democracy and not forgetting the injustice of the SED regime.

The special session is expected to include speeches by CDU leaders reflecting on the historical significance of reunification, the progress made in integrating East and West Germany, and the ongoing challenges. Discussions or panels on the importance of democratic values, civic engagement, and measures to strengthen democratic institutions in the state and country may also be featured.

School visits to memorial sites are being suggested as a mandatory activity by the CDU, as part of the commemoration events. The CDU also proposes using effective youth formats such as podcasts or video projects to engage younger generations.

The people of East Germany gained freedom and democracy with reunification, which took place on October 3, 1990, less than a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. The DDR People's Chamber declared the accession of the DDR to the scope of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany to take effect on this date.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern gained its statehood and a democratically elected state parliament with German reunification. The state government is urged to sustainably support the voluntary memorial site work that highlights the horrors of the SED dictatorship.

For precise and up-to-date details, it is recommended to check official CDU Mecklenburg-Vorpommern channels or local news sources shortly after the event date.
