Care to witness history in the making? Here's your chance! The Conclave commences today, and your favorite TV channels are all set to bring you the thrilling Papal Election live! Expect a plethora of special broadcasts reacting to the ongoing developments.

Channel Shake-up in White Smoke

Keep your eyes glued to RTL and ntv - they're ready to bring you live images straight from Rome! If you're lucky enough to catch a puff of white smoke, signaling the election's success, you can bet your remote that these channels will promptly interrupt their regular programming with live coverage. In RTL's words, "If the decision comes at an unusual hour, RTL will temporarily push aside or shift shows to RTL+ to grace our screens with the historic moment of the papal announcement." On the day that the Head of the Roman Catholic Church is officially declared, RTL will air an exhilarating "RTL Aktuell Special." ntv, too, promises in-depth live coverage, offering analysis of each vote and the latest happenings in Rome.

Initially, ZDF announced their intentions for special programming for the Conclave. This Wednesday, tune in at 4 pm for Antje Pieper's "ZDF special" - but only if white smoke conveniently rises and the emphatic declaration "Habemus Papam" ("We have a Pope") ensues! In the event of this momentous occasion, ZDF will also bring you the new Pope's first mass with the cardinals in the Sistine Chapel the following day. Interestingly, Das Erste already scheduled the mass for the Pope's election on May 7, from 9:55 am to 12 pm, with a special broadcast likely following if events unfold.

The election can also be tracked down on Phoenix. The channel will discuss things live from Rome, hosted by Lena Mosel, in both "phoenix vor ort" shows airing today at 4 pm and 7 pm. Bayerisches Fernsehen, meanwhile, will accompany you on the quest for a new Pope this Wednesday. Starting at 7 pm, "Stationen" will peer behind the walls of the Vatican and scrutinize the Conclave process, while "jetzt red i" at 8:15 pm will delve into the expectations from the new Pope.
