Catastrophic storm ravages the region in July and August
Delayed Summer and Persistent Thunderstorms Sweep Across the Country
A major thunderstorm wave is currently dominating the weather in the country, bringing prolonged periods of enhanced thunderstorm activity and rainfall. This wave, which is expected to continue until at least August, is particularly intense in the south of the country.
The current weather pattern is causing cooler temperatures, with the highest daytime temperatures barely reaching 22°C. At night, temperatures drop as low as 9°C, making it necessary for people to wear warm clothing even in the middle of summer.
The major thunderstorm wave is linked to global tropical disturbances like the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), a tropical weather wave that moves eastward around the globe every 30 to 60 days. When the active phase of the MJO or a similar wave moves into a region, it can cause increased cloud cover, precipitation, and cooler temperatures, effectively delaying the arrival or continuation of typical summer warmth.
According to current forecasts, the thunderstorms are expected to continue in the south of the country at the beginning of the new week. Other regions in the country are also affected by the storms, with strong rainfall and plenty of storms expected. Heavy and continuous rain is expected south of the Danube at the beginning of the new week, and there are strong gusts of wind in some areas.
The weather remains changeable, particularly in the south of the country, with frequent thunderstorms and showers. It is advisable to carry an umbrella in the coming days due to the thunderstorms. August is expected to be rainy, potentially making summer unenjoyable for many. Instead of outdoor activities, people are wearing rain boots and waiting for the rain to stop.
The arrival of summer has been delayed in the country due to the major thunderstorm wave. Whether the weather will change in the coming weeks remains uncertain, as it is uncertain if a high-pressure area will prevail after August. A 100-year-old calendar predicts the first snow in October, but it remains to be seen if this will come to pass.

Other regions, besides the south, are bracing for strong rainfall and numerous storms, akin to the currently impacted areas. The persistence of such weather conditions in the upcoming days may accordingly affect weather-forecasting and anticipation of summer's onset, as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) continues to influence the country's weather pattern.
