Catastrophic Flooding in Texas: Nine Children and Seventeen Adults Lost Lives

In Kerr County, Texas, the aftermath of catastrophic flash floods continues to unfold, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. As of July 6, 2025, at least 59 people have been confirmed dead, including 21 children and 38 adults, with eight additional deaths reported in nearby Travis County. Among the victims are 16 girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the Guadalupe River, with 11 more girls still missing, along with an unidentified number of other missing persons.

The disaster was triggered by a massive storm that dropped approximately 12 inches of rain in a short span of time during the early morning hours of July 4, causing the Guadalupe River to surge rapidly—26 feet in just 45 minutes. The severity was exacerbated by the region’s natural susceptibility to flash flooding due to the soil and terrain conditions of the Texas Hill Country.

Massive rescue and recovery efforts are underway, with helicopters, boats, and drones being utilised to locate missing individuals and provide aid to those in need. Officials have warned that cleanup and rebuilding will be a lengthy process. The full extent of the disaster remains unclear more than 24 hours after the floods began, with over 850 people having been rescued unharmed.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed sympathy for the affected families, posting a message on the Truth Social platform, offering prayers for those impacted and a blessing for Texas. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's arrival at the scene of the disaster has yet to be confirmed, despite Trump's post stating that she is expected to visit Kerr County.

The identities of many of the deceased are still unknown, and the total number of missing people beyond those at Camp Mystic has not been disclosed. The incident has prompted an outpouring of support and prayers from communities across the nation, as the people of Kerr County and surrounding areas face an uncertain road to recovery.
