Fire Drill at Burg Heistard: Volunteer Fire Departments Test Compatibility
On the evening of July 10, 2025, a significant fire drill took place at the drill site in Holzheim, Burg Heistard. This was the first joint exercise between Fire Brigade 3 and Fire Brigade 4, as reported by news aktuell.
The drill was initiated by the control center of the Euskirchen district at 19:00. The Gerber family of Burg Heistard provided the drill location, and the drone units from Schleiden-Harperscheid and Euskirchen-Elsig were on hand to document the drill from the air and offer insights into their systems.
Each fire brigade had specific objectives during the drill. The fire brigades from Weiler am Berge and Harzheim were responsible for ensuring a constant water supply, rescuing people from smoky building parts, locating and fighting the fire. The fire brigade from Satzvey was tasked with setting up a defensive position and protecting other building parts from the fire.
Meanwhile, the fire brigades from Wachendorf and Obergartzem were tasked with a unique challenge - rescuing a person trapped under an agricultural vehicle. Air cushions were used on both sides for the rescue operation in Wachendorf and Obergartzem.
In addition to Fire Brigade 3, Fire Brigade from Harzheim was also alerted. The firefighter teams involved in the exercise were the units from Löschzug 3 (Obergartzem, Satzvey, Wachendorf, and Weiler am Berge) and the Löschgruppe Harzheim from Löschzug 4.
The drone units from Schleiden-Harperscheid and the fire department of Euskirchen-Elsig participated in the fire drill, providing valuable support during the exercise. The organizers ensured that all personnel were adequately challenged during the drill, marking the first time the drone units and the fire departments tested their compatibility.
