Fire in O Bolo and Panton: Current Situation and Impact

Two significant wildfires are currently burning in the provinces of Ourense and Lugo, Spain. Here's an update on the situation in both locations.

The Fire in O Bolo

The wildfire in O Bolo, located in the parish of Vilaseco, started overnight on Thursday. The blaze has forced the evacuation of the municipalities of Cibrisqueiros, Frontera, and Budian. The railway line between Ourense and Lugo has been closed, with alternative transport arrangements made for rail users.

The level 2 alert situation remains active due to the proximity of the fire to the Lomis nucleus. The fire has spread over an area of 30 hectares, but no evacuations have been reported. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and UME personnel have been deployed to help extinguish the flames.

The Fire in Panton

In Lugo, a wildfire started in the parish of Pombeiro at 14:16 on Thursday. The fire has since spread to 150 hectares and has led to the evacuation of the communities Cibrisqueiros, Frontera, and Budian. The mayor of Panton, Jose Luis Alvarez Blanco, has stated that at the moment, there is no danger to houses.

The Xunta de Galicia has confined the Santa Cruz, Lentellais, and Bolo nuclei due to the fire. Air quality in the city of Ourense and the municipality of Sarria (Lugo) has deteriorated due to smoke from the fire.

Monitoring and Precautions

The monitoring station in Gomez Franqueira is the only one in the province with poor air quality due to the presence of PM10 and PM2.5 particles. MeteoGalicia recommends that citizens reduce outdoor activities if they experience coughing, shortness of breath, or throat irritation.

Air quality in the city of Ourense and the surrounding areas has not been directly affected by the fire in O Bolo, but the situation is being continuously monitored. The traffic on the provincial road that connects Santo Estevo de Ribas de Sil with Ferreira, the LU-P-4103, has been interrupted due to the fire in O Bolo.

The OU-533 road is closed between kilometers 33 and 38 due to the fire in O Bolo. The level 2 situation has been declared in O Bolo as a preventive measure due to the proximity of the flames to the Santa Cruz nucleus.

Stay tuned for further updates on these ongoing wildfires in the provinces of Ourense and Lugo.
