The Fire Department reported over 100 emergency deployments to manage the crisis. Traffic was severely disrupted, and traffic control measures were implemented on the flooded streets.
Notably, a tree fell onto a stationary freight train at the freight depot, causing significant rail traffic disruptions. The excavation pit at a new hospital building filled with water, with barrier fences torn down by wind and water. Remarkably, despite the scale of the damage, there were no reports of injuries.
The Black Forest on Fire festival in nearby Berghaupten was delayed due to the storm. The German Meteorological Service continued to warn of severe thunderstorms following the event.
Residents and authorities responded actively to the emergency situation. The Offenburg Fire Department was heavily involved in managing the crisis. Emergency management teams were moving between Offenburg and nearby Rastatt to check for further damage.
In some places, the drainage system couldn't handle the water, causing flooding of the streets. In the northeast part of the city, falling branches destroyed a company's photovoltaic system. A small car was destroyed by a fallen branch in Prinz-Eugen-Straße. The storm also damaged a rooftop of a construction equipment rental in the north of the city.
At least two teenagers were slightly injured at home by shattered window glass and treated in hospital. Additionally, 40 additional basements were flooded, according to the fire department. Despite several streets being closed, some residents ignored the closures and dangerously circumvented them, according to the fire department.
The main access road to the Ortenau Clinic was temporarily blocked by falling branches, although no new information about fallen branches blocking other roads was provided. The extent of the damage caused by the storm is not yet clear.
