Catastrophe Continues Unfolding
"LA's Inferno: The Aftermath of Climate Chaos"
"'Climate Change' got a face: it's a 28-year-old dude from Reseda, donning a black hoodie and holding a lighter." -Peach Keenan"Mimicking reality, Oscar Wilde once quipped. Quite a prophetic sentiment, don't you think? Just like in the movie 'The Day of the Locust,' the city of dreams has been reduced to a smoldering hellhole. The haunting implications of this catastrophe will linger in our collective consciousness for years.
Die-hard democratic voters, well-heeled celebrities residing in the Pacific Palisades, took a hard left turn towards reality after losing their homes to the flames. Numbering around ninety percent as Democrats, these residents were all in for the progressive agenda, particularly Diversity-Equity-and-Inclusion (DEI), open borders, and the multitude of strangers that flooded the nation.
Now, whispers swirl across cyber waves regarding these mystery migrants scouring the wreckage for loot on their battery-powered scooters and cars. Caught on camera, one was thought to be a suspect who'd started the latest flare-up known as the Kenneth Fire, creeping along the edge of the San Fernando Valley.DEI's heroes in uniform faced a roadblock in their efforts to put out the flames, as fire hydrants, devoid of water, thwarted their efforts. It turns out that water sprites may have been responsible for keeping them filled!
LA Mayor Karen Bass, unavailable to put out fires at the onset of the conflagration, scurried back to tend to the smoldering remnants of Malibu after jetting off to the inauguration of the new president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama. Gavin Newsom waltzed through smoke-filled streets with Anderson Cooper, claiming control over the situation, which was decidedly out of control. Governor Newsom's leadership has faced criticism, particularly for his lack of forest and brush management, as well as his $25-million proposal for Trump-proofing California. With that sum, Newsom could have employed 500 brush-cutting workers instead, if he hadn't relied on penal workforces.
Even 'Joe Biden' dropped by in a trip fraught with symbolism, to announce the creation of the Chuckwalla National Monument, a hundred miles out in the Mojave Desert from LA. But he found time for fervent phone conversations with Governor Newsom, discussing federal aid packages for rebuilding Malibu — as if the folks in Appalachia camped out in tents hadn't heard his $500-million aid package for Ukraine. One can't help but wonder if the people in the Mountain regions still puzzling the issue of 'America First' have any recollection of this.
The emotional toll on families will be immense in the coming months and years. Insurance companies canceled policies for many homeowners in fire-prone areas due to excessive bureaucratic red tape. Many of those lost homes will be total losses, even those built in the 1960s and valued at millions in neighborhoods like Pacific Palisades, the Hollywood Hills, and Malibu Beach. Comedian Adam Carolla highlighted the crushing permitting process in Los Angeles County, slamming the additional environmental agency hurdles and the scarcity of competent building contractors to handle the rebuilding of so many houses at once. Thousands of families may find themselves homeless for years ahead.
The ripple effects of this disaster on the movie industry are also uncertain. The movie business had been on life support prior to the fires, hampered by woke management, shifting movie tastes, writers and actors' strikes, high-priced union labor, and the gradual move of the industry away from California. Thousands of showbiz folks may feel the urge to flee the scene of the disaster, leaving a gaping hole in California's economy. But that's not all; the economic impact of this local catastrophe serves as a harbinger of darker times ahead for the nation as a whole."
