Casualties Reported in Retaliatory Strikes by Russia Against Ukraine: Four Killed, Multiple Injuries - Casualties reported: Four fatalities, multiple injuries ensue after Russian counter-attacks on Ukraine

According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, three rescue workers met a tragic end in Kyiv while working on duty. These heroes were unfortunately hit during a mission to aid those affected by an attack, Klymenko confirmed. More than a dozen others were injured in similar incidents.

In the wee hours of the night, as per reports, Russia struck Kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles, impacting several districts and igniting blazes. The attacks also caused damage to railway tracks in the Kyiv region. AFP journalists in Kyiv reported hearing explosions and warning sirens, and upon inspections, found a burnt crater in an apartment block's facade with debris and shattered glass scattered all around.

The cities of Lutsk in the Volyn region, Lviv, and Ternopil were also targeted in other attacks. Vyacheslav Negoda, the head of the military administration of Ternopil, said that the enemy launched the most substantial air attack seen so far on their region. In Lutsk, a man's body was discovered in the rubble of a destroyed building in the afternoon, according to government announcements. President Selenskyj confirmed that the Russian army attacked targets in nine regions, resulting in nearly 80 injuries altogether. Around half of the drones launched by Russia, as well as 36 out of 45 missiles, were successfully intercepted by air defense measures.

Last weekend, Ukraine hit military support points deep inside Russian territory using drones, causing significant damage to a number of Russian military aircraft. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared that a response would occur "as and when" the military deemed appropriate. true

On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a "massive" attack on Ukraine overnight as a retaliation, targeting "military targets." In response, Kyiv reported a successful attack on two Russian military airfields on Friday. The Ukrainian army claims these are the Engels airbase in the Saratov region, where enemy aircraft are concentrated, and the air force support base of Dyagilevo in the Rяazan region, which reportedly supported rocket attacks on Ukrainian territory. In Russia, three people were injured in the western region of Tula in overnight Ukrainian attacks, local authorities revealed. The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said that Russian air defense had shot down a drone heading towards the capital, and a total of "ten enemy drones" were allegedly involved in the attempted attack on Moscow.

Following these developments, Kyiv turned to its international partners for support and to pressure Russia to halt the continuing attacks. President Selenskyj urged for "decisive action," stating that, "Whoever does not apply pressure and lengthens the conflict, making more time for it to claim lives, shares the blame and is responsible."

In recent weeks, international efforts to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine have intensified. Direct talks between representatives of Russia and Ukraine took place for the first time in three years, resulting in agreed-upon prisoner exchanges but no progress on a ceasefire. Despite the international pressure, mutual attacks continue to escalate with no signs of abating.

Russia has described the conflict as "existential" for their country. In response to remarks by US President Donald Trump comparing the situation to a "scuffle" between "two small children" in a park, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, "For us, this is an existential question, a matter of national interests, security, and our future, and the future of our children."
