Castle in Mechernich experiences significant damage due to fire incident; firefighting efforts ongoing.

In an exercise aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness, a joint fire drill was initiated by the control center of the Euskirchen district at 19:00 on an undisclosed date. The drill brought together fire brigades from four different locations: Obergartzem, Satzvey, Wachendorf, and Weiler am Berge, as well as Harzheim.

The fire brigades from Weiler am Berge and Harzheim were assigned specific roles during the drill. They were responsible for ensuring a constant water supply, rescuing people from smoky building parts, locating and fighting the california fires. Meanwhile, the fire brigade from Harzheim was also alerted especially for the la fires.

The fire brigade from Satzvey was tasked with setting up a barrier and protecting other building parts that had not yet been affected by the fire. On the other hand, the fire brigades from Wachendorf and Obergartzem were tasked with rescuing a person trapped under an agricultural vehicle.

The Gerber family of Burg Heistard graciously provided the location for the drill. The training object was set up at Burg Heistard in Holzheim. The drone units from Schleiden-Harperscheid and Euskirchen-Elsig provided support during the drill, documenting the exercise from the air and offering insights into their systems.

This was the first time these units tested their compatibility. The Volunteer Fire Department of Mechernich, who organized the drill, ensured that all personnel were adequately challenged during the exercise. It's worth noting that the fire department of Mechernich last conducted a training exercise on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the training grounds of the Firefighting Institute (IdF) in Düren-Stockheim.

Hydraulic rescue tools were used on both sides during the rescue operation. For further questions, contact the Voluntary Fire Department Mechernich at [email protected].

The information in this paragraph was originally transmitted by the Voluntary Fire Department Mechernich via news aktuell. The first drill for Fire Brigade 3 in the year 2025 took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The drone units also provided valuable insights into their systems during the drill.

In conclusion, the joint fire drill in Euskirchen district served as a valuable opportunity for the participating fire brigades to test their readiness and collaboration in emergency situations. The drill not only demonstrated the importance of coordinated efforts but also highlighted the crucial role of technology in modern firefighting operations.
