A 51-year-old man, of Turkish nationality, has been arrested on suspicion of homicide following the discovery of a decomposed female body in a suitcase in Filderstadt, near Stuttgart. The arrest was made after officers searched the suspect's apartment on Thursday, following a tip received after the case was presented on the crime-solving show "Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst" on ZDF.
The victim, a 40-year-old woman, has been identified, but her nationality and cause of death are yet to be disclosed. According to current findings, the woman may have been dead for almost two months. The body was found by employees of a maintenance yard at the end of August under a bridge in a residential area.
The intensive criminal police investigations of the special commission in this case continue. Investigators have been searching for clues, including distributing flyers in drug and homeless communities in Stuttgart. However, the exact location of the search for clues and the nature of the tips received are not specified.
The suspect is exercising his right to remain silent. Several tips have been received following the television broadcast, and the public prosecutor's office offered a reward of 1,000 euros for information leading to the clarification of the case.
