Carter Mazur earns Red Wings recall after dominant AHL return from injury

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled forward Carter Mazur from their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. The 23-year-old American has shown strong form this season, bouncing back from injury to earn his spot in the NHL lineup. Mazur first made his NHL debut on March 6, 2025, facing the Utah Hockey Club. Before that, he spent two seasons at the University of Denver, where he collected 75 points (36 goals, 39 assists) in 81 games. As a freshman, he won the NCHC Rookie of the Year award and helped the Pioneers claim the 2022 NCAA Division I national title. The following year, he earned All-NCHC Second Team and AHCA West Second Team All-American honours.

His professional career began in the USHL with the Tri-City Storm, where he recorded 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists) across 95 games from 2018 to 2021. Since joining the Griffins in 2022-23, Mazur has tallied 73 points (39 goals, 34 assists) in 100 AHL games. His best season came in 2023-24, with 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 60 matches. This season, injury sidelined him for 48 games from late October to late February. Upon his return on March 4, he scored 9 points (7 goals, 2 assists) in just 9 games. Before his recall on March 28, he had 15 points (11 goals, 4 assists) in 14 appearances. Internationally, Mazur represented Team USA at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, notching seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in five games. He also played at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, contributing four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 10 matches.

The recall comes as Mazur regains full fitness and continues his scoring streak in the AHL. His experience in college, junior, and international hockey adds depth to the Red Wings' forward options. The team will look to his speed and offensive ability in the final stretch of the season.
