Cartagena's Inclusive Sports Weekend Celebrates Unity and Athletic Spirit

Cartagena recently hosted a major sporting and cultural weekend from February 20 to 22, featuring events near me. The event, organized by Special Olympics Spain and the Cartagena City Council, brought together over 100 athletes from across Spain for the National Motor Skills Testing Workshop. It celebrated unity and inclusivity for participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The weekend began with an opening ceremony, followed by a series of sports and cultural activities. Athletes competed in various events, with a medal presentation marking their achievements. Beyond sports, attendees enjoyed a concert, a comedy show, a traditional bowling meeting, a basketball game, and a theatre performance.

On Sunday, the 13th La Huertecica Solidarity Mile took place—a 1,609-metre fun run that launched the Carthago Running League 2026. The event also aligned with the start of Cartagena's Holy Week celebrations, adding to the city's festive atmosphere.

The closing ceremony wrapped up the weekend, reinforcing the event's focus on community and accessibility. Organisers highlighted the importance of bringing together athletes from different regions for shared experiences.

The workshop and surrounding activities drew widespread participation, making it one of the season's largest sporting events in Cartagena. With a mix of competitions, cultural performances, and public engagement, the weekend showcased the city's commitment to inclusivity. The success of the event sets a positive tone for future initiatives in the region.
