Cars from an older era obstruct the path, followed by a former East German leader's appearance.
Fired Up for May 1st: Shake, Rumble, and Roll in Altentreptow
Rev up your engines, gearheads! The Classic Car Parade is back on the calendar, with a full day of roaring engines and nostalgic vibes lined up for May 1st. You've got a 9 AM to 4 PM window to immerse yourself in the classic car and tractor scene, right here in this cheerful German town.
Parade Reunites after a Long Break
Last year's parade was a bummer for enthusiasts and organizers alike. The grand event had to be scrapped due to safety concerns. Peer Utech, our event mastermind, was particularly disappointed, with Altentreptow's fire department halting the parade due to a traffic snag. The city's new route was clogged by an oncoming flood of classic vehicles.
Fret not, gearheads, this year's parade is set to proceed as planned. Uetch assures us that the logistical debacles of the past will be seamlessly avoided. "This year, we'll clear the way," he says, promising a three-kilometer route for about 300 vehicles to zip through.
Prepare for a standstill in Altentreptow from 11 AM to 12 PM, though. Cars traveling along the L35, both ways—from Klempenow and Neubrandenburg—will have to endure wait times of at least an hour, as warned by Peer Uetch from experience.
Town's Parking Spaces to Fill up Rapidly
A heads-up for those who'll be navigating the streets of Altentreptow: Most parking spaces, including supermarket lots, will likely reach capacity. Additionally, spaces on the Klosterberg will be off-limits for parkers. Fear not, as temporary parking areas on the outskirts of town can accommodate hundreds of vehicles, according to Uetch.
Safety Measures in Place
Your safety is a top priority in this rollicking rally. The Altentreptow fire department will tend to matters on the ground, with road closures and traffic guidance. You'll also find them stationed at the parking lots and festival grounds, ready to lend a helping hand when needed. "We couldn't pull this off without them," Uetch jokingly acknowledges.
A Star-Studded Show on the Festival Grounds
The event's epicenter will be a large tent on the festival grounds, which will serve as our rain plan retreat. Workshops, demonstrations, and classic car parts will be on display at a trader's mile. For the first time, a flea market mile will also make an appearance.
The main stage will feature performances by DDR superstar Olaf Berger and the local Schlager duo Jo and Josephine. Expect a mix of classic tunes, delicious food, and activities for the kids, such as a playground, climbing course, and bouncy castles near the Apfelallee.
Classic car lovers, mark your calendars, and be there by 9 AM! A swift arrival will ensure a proper setup and on-time kickoff for the drive at 11 AM. Happy motoring!
Delighted car aficionados can gather for an exciting day of classic car displays and live performances, as the Classic Car Parade returns to Altentreptow following a year's hiatus. Among the entertainment, Olaf Berger, a DDR superstar, and local Schlager duo Jo and Josephine will grace the main stage, providing music for all to enjoy. Don't forget to prepare for the inevitable rush and congestion in the town, as parking spaces are expected to fill up quickly, so arrive early to secure a spot.
