Bid Adieu: Cardona Bids Permanent Farewell to FC Augsburg, Joins Saint-Étienne Permanently

Forward Cardona Departs FC Augsburg Permanently - Cardona departs permanently from Augsburg football club.

Get ready for some changes at FC Augsburg, as they say goodbye to their offensive player Irvin Cardona, who's now headed to AS Saint-Étienne on a permanent deal following the exercise of the purchase option.

"Fitting for all parties, Cardona's permanent transfer grants him a leading role at his new club. We're grateful for his loyalty to FCA and extend warmest wishes for his future, both on and off the field," Augsburg's managing director, Michael Ströll, stated.

Before the Transfer

Cardona debuted with Augsburg in January 2023, arriving from Stade Brest, when the winter break commenced. Midway through the 2023/24 season, the Frenchman was loaned to Saint-Étienne for the first time, helping them climb up to Ligue 1 with match-winning performances. Next came a stint at Espanyol Barcelona, which was cut short, followed by a return to Saint-Étienne. Despite scoring five goals and providing three assists in 15 appearances, a swift relegation was unfortunate for the team.

Before taking off, Cardona expressed his appreciation for his time with Augsburg: "I extend my gratitude to everyone at FCA - the fans, my teammates, and the management - for the time I spent here. I wish the club nothing but success in the future."

New Beginnings

Augsburg prepares to start anew, as they kick off training camp in early July. With new coach Sandro Wagner stepping in, change is around the corner for the Swabians, who failed to clinch a European spot after a late losing streak, finishing the season at 12th place.

Background

Saying goodbye to Augsburg, Cardona is now a permanent member of AS Saint-Étienne—a French club based in Ligue 1. The newcomer joins the likes of Maxime Bernauer, bolstering the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

As a right winger, Cardona can contribute significantly to the team's attack, offering flexibility and adaptability in strategy. His past experiences both in Germany and France will help him integrate smoothly into Saint-Étienne's Playstyle.

Here's a sneak peek at what we can expect from his impact on the team:

  • Strategic Flexibility: Cardona's versatile playing style may allow Saint-Étienne to embrace different formations and tactics, boosting their offensive domination.
  • Experience and Adaptability: With a proven track record in both German and French leagues, he's poised to quickly adjust to the club's approach, potentially enhancing the team's overall performance.

Augsburg's loss is undoubtedly Saint-Étienne's gain, as their signing serves to strengthen their attacking lineup, and potentially propel their standings in the French league.

Irvin Cardona, formerly of FC Augsburg, has joined AS Saint-Étienne permanently after the successful exercise of a purchase option. Although football in Germany may now miss the skills of the right winger, Cardona's experience and adaptability developed across European leagues could help him thrive in sports like football within the EC countries, such as France's Ligue 1.
