Cardinals' Trey Benson Out 4-6 Weeks After Knee Surgery; Michael Carter to Step Up
The Arizona Cardinals have placed running back Trey Benson on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Benson underwent surgery on his meniscus and is expected to be out for four to six weeks. The team hosts the Tennessee Titans on Sunday with a record of 2-2, and Benson's return is anticipated at some point this season.
Benson, who has been a key player for the Cardinals this season, has rushed for a team-leading 160 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt. He also contributed 13 receptions for 64 yards. Benson's injury occurred during the Cardinals' loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday. The team is already dealing with the loss of running back James Conner, who was placed on season-ending IR.
In Benson's absence, the Cardinals will look to Michael Carter, Emari Demercado, and Bam Knight to handle the running back workload on Sunday. Carter, who played for the Cardinals in 2024, accumulated 131 yards and a touchdown in three games, positioning him to potentially take on a significant workload if Benson's injury status impacts his availability.
The Cardinals will face the Titans on Sunday with a revamped running back corps. Benson's return is expected later in the season, but for now, the team will rely on Carter, Demercado, and Knight to fill the void left by Benson and Conner's injuries.
