Cardiacs' Final Album "LSD" to be Released on September 12
After years of speculation and anticipation, the British avant-garde rock band Cardiacs will release their final album, "LSD", on September 12. This highly-anticipated release will be available on double vinyl, CD, and as a download through the Alphabet Business Concern label.
The album, which was started by the late bandleader Tim Smith in 2005 but was shelved following his heart attack in 2008, was completed under the guidance of Tim's brother Jim Smith and former member Kavus Torabi. The album was mixed by Adam Noble and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright.
Tim Smith, who passed away in 2020, wrote and co-produced songs on the album before his passing. The other members and guests, including Mike Vennart (formerly of Oceansize and Empire State Bastard), Shane Embury, Steve Morricone, and members from bands like Oceansize, Biffy Clyro, and Empire, helped finish it, making it a collaborative effort to finalize his vision.
Mike Vennart contributes vocals to "LSD", while Rose-Ellen Kemp and Bob Leith lend their voices and drums, respectively, to the album. Craig Fortnam from North Sea Radio Orchestra collaborates on brass and string arrangements for the album.
The album is presented on black and two-colored LPs in a double gatefold sleeve with slipcase, full lyric booklet, and a "Making Of LSD" booklet. It contains archive recordings from Tim Smith's studio and is a labour of love for those who completed it.
Jim Smith confirmed to Prog that the album will be released later this year, putting an end to the many years of rumors surrounding the release. Fans can pre-order the album now. The release of "LSD" is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Tim Smith and the unique sound of Cardiacs.
